Moving from the Sisterhood to the Brotherhood...
Inpress buys Drum Media

After more than 15 years of publishing the independent title The Drum Media, and twenty or more years of being involved with Sydney's music scene, Jenny and Margaret Cott have announced the sale of The Drum Media to interests associated with brothers Craig and Leigh Treweek and Inpress Magazine (Melbourne).

Both Jenny and Marg Cott are delighted to be passing Drum Media into such strong and musically like-minded business hands, with the Melbourne publishers offering to provide a greater media footprint for the Drum, while stimulating future business growth with greater opportunities for staff, advertisers and readers in both states.

Sydney based newspaper The Drum Media is a highly respected entertainment weekly newspaper that prints an estimated 500 pages and over 140,000 newspapers per month and is generally regarded as Australia's leading live music and entertainment title.

In 1990 The Cott sisters started The Drum Media from the bones of the seminal independent and now defunct title On the Street magazine (est 1979), Australia's first free music street press.

The acquisition of Drum Media into the Melbourne based Inpress media stable will mean a cohesive and strong eastern state media presence. "Basically the sale is a perfect fit, offering youthful energy and ideas into two already buoyant and prosperous magazine titles", said Marg Cott yesterday.

"Both Jenny and I, as small publishers, recognised the need for The Drum Media to take the next step, while still maintaining a 'business as usual' ethos. The sale of Drum Media to Inpress will mean the change will appear seamless, while moving into the next publishing level and securing Drum's future growth and retaining market momentum," stated Cott.

"This is a great opportunity to build a strong music media outlet that is supportive of the local music scene at a grass roots level," added Craig Treweek. "We look forward to continuing to support the Sydney music scene in the same way Margeret and Jenny have."

"On a personal level" admitted Jennifer, "it's been a fun working within the machinations of the music industry, and achieving a business success. Needless to say we will miss everything about Drum including the deadlines, but there are some very exciting and good times ahead for all involved, and yes, Marg and I will be taking a well deserved vacation before we look around for something else to sink our teeth into."
