NICK CAVE SOLO/GRINDERMAN
AUSTRALIAN TOUR ANNOUNCED

Billions Australia Presents

NICK CAVE SOLO/GRINDERMAN

AUSTRALIAN TOUR ANNOUNCED

Billions Australia is thrilled to announce a tour unlike any other that has been produced to date.  This October, two bands come to Australian shores "Nick Cave Solo" and "Grinderman". This is an opportunity, a chance you may never have again to see Nick Cave and his cohorts Warren Ellis (violin/mandolin/bouzouki), Martyn Casey (bass) and Jim Sclavunos (drums) through two completely different prisms in one evening and on one intimate stage.  Each of these special shows will open with a Nick Cave Solo set which sees Nick holding court from behind the concert grand piano as he did here back in January of 2000, aided and abetted by the now longstanding solo line up of Warren, Marty and Jim.  After this "solo" set, Cave will emerge from behind the ivory, shoulder an electric guitar and become one quarter of the mighty Grinderman, these same four musicians utterly transformed.  If you've heard the record, you understand.

Grinderman traces its genesis from the working method of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds as they prepared the songs that would become 2004's Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus, a stunning double album many regard as the band's finest effort, selling over 500,000 copies worldwide.  Early that year, Warren, Martyn and Jim accompanied Nick into the tiny Mis่re studio in Paris as a songwriting experiment.  With a radical and expeditious approach, the four men laid basic tracks for a prodigious amount of original material over the course of a mere four days.

This assembly of Warren, Martyn and Jim became the new composition of the ensemble that has been playing with Nick in his solo performances since 2000.  Over time, the dynamic this quartet developed as they worked both in live settings, on soundtrack and scoring projects began to suggest potential for a new living, breathing, original band that might operate autonomously from the Bad Seeds with a dramatically different sound and process.  In February of 2006, they entered London's Metropolis Studios for a frenzied, five-day marathon of demo sessions, creating several hours of raw material.  The best of this was distilled into what would become the newborn Grinderman's eponymous and earth-moving debut.

Just imagine it.  Many of your Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds favorites reinterpreted in singular style by Nick at the piano, followed by the full-blown catharsis of Grinderman's existential howl.  This will be one for the ages and it happens only here, in Australia - this October.
