"This is our last tour. So this is our crazy, no punches pulled... we have to do the weirdest stuff. It's like the most ramshackle basement show ever. It's the end of this type of thing for us."  James Murphy - LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
Two pioneering titans of pleasurably innovative modern pop music, New York City's LCD Soundsystem and London's Hot Chip, are coming to Australia in July to go head to head.
Do we really need to write anything else? Ok.
LCD Soundsystem are returning to Australia for the first time since their universally worshipped watershed last record, Sound Of Silver. This time they come correct with a new album, This Is Happening, due on shelves May 14. This Is Happening is yet another bold leap forward for James Murphy and his band of merry punk funk masters and one of the most eagerly-awaited records of 2010.
As if the LCD Soundsystem live experience wasn't incredible enough already with it's electrifying, pounding man-made disco punk onslaught, add a smattering of their best record yet* recorded in Rick Rubin's lavish LA mansion to the and what you have here is simply unmissable.
Hot Chip meanwhile have steadily built up an extensive catalogue of certified hits since their debut Coming On Strong in 2004, working like beavers to release a smashing new record every other year. Their latest, One Life Stand, could arguably be called their best yet too, with singles like the title track and I Feel Better already cementing their place in the already solid as a rock Hot Chip canon.
The Hot Chip live experience is a suitably brilliant geek chic goodtime, and one that has been on the ascent ever since their first tour down under around the time of their 2nd record, The Warning. This trip sees them at the pinnacle of their powers, a 5-headed beast banging, strumming, hammering, filtering, harmonising and rinsing to their hearts content and for the punters' ultimate delight.
