"I am proud to have had Fleming Artists represent me for 20 years and running. Professional, ethical, and dedicated, they have been a keystone of my team and a trusty engine of my career." Ani Di Franco

Is Melbourne the new Brooklyn?

In what is great news for Australian musicians, respected US booking agency Fleming Artists has announced the opening of an Australian office in Melbourne, their third base after New York City and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Fleming Artists are the first US Booking Agency to open an office here with a focus on breaking Australian artists into the international touring circuit, offering their acts a gateway to the US, Canada and all other major overseas markets.

Australian artists now have a direct local avenue to pursue both local and international tours through an agency that has built a reputation for professional excellence.  Led by Jim Fleming, Fleming Artists has been in the business for over 30 years, representing some of the world's finest touring artists including Grant-Lee Buffalo, actor /musician Jeff Daniels and Ani DiFranco.

The Australian office is headed by John Sinclair, himself a respected veteran of the Australian music scene.

"Melbourne is Music City in Australia. There are hundreds of bands playing here weekly so it made sense to open the Australian branch of Fleming Artists in Melbourne.  This city has long held the mantle of the best live music city in the country, and the level of talent that's coming out of Melbourne now is staggering."

"I believe that the bands coming out of The Old Bar in Fitzroy are the most exciting group of musicians since the Civic Hotel in Sydney in 1978 nurtured bands like INXS, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, Mental as Anything, The Angels, Icehouse, Mi-Sex, bands  that defined Australian contemporary music for the last 35 years. I think Melbourne is the next Brooklyn or Seattle."

"Bands like Graveyard Train, Little John, The Brothers Grim, Toot Toot Toots and Cash Savage are really taking off,  and it makes sense that Australian bands can plan and grow their international careers and touring schedules through one booking agency that has a great local knowledge of the right venues, festivals and other live show opportunities worldwide.  Fleming Artists are really excited about opening a branch in a country that has always punched above its weight when it comes to delivering great music, and we'll constantly be on the lookout for Australian artists around the country that we believe have not just a promising career ahead of themselves here, but also internationally."

The Graveyard Train leaves on July 12th for their first US/Canadian tour including the Vancouver Folk and Hillside Festivals.
